big what's new

May 14, 2007

Wow! Where does the time go??? We have changed hosts again, so, there are a few tiny glitches to work out. Notably, the loss of our fabulous Bookstore. Meanwhile, visit our old Books page, or, Visit our Tudor Times store! or click here Thanks again to all who visit and order books.

Next time, I'll have some updates from the Four Tudor Books on Education, as well as our favorite doctor of physic, William Bullein. I can't believe that it's been almost nine years now...

November 13, 2006

Well, you can always tell when I have no paying work, the updates to TT become more regular. Oh, sure, there's the good feeling I get from working here at NCS...left all alone in the office while everyone else gets to visit customers located in resort places. Sure, go ahead, I don't mind at all...

Something new today from the Four Tudor Books on Education--A diphthongue makes a different sound. This stuff is great. It's interesting to me since I completed the requirements for a Teaching Certificate in Health Occupations.  I'm now "highly qualified" under NCLB. I also work with dyslexic students after school.

Posting some recipes: Sweet and Sour Chicken In Almond Sauce Catalan Style dating from 1474 and Poule au Pot Henri IV from late in the 16th century.

Sincere thanks to those who have ordered from the Bookstore. New! Visit our Tudor Times store! or click here

October 31, 2006

Sincere thanks to those who have ordered from the Bookstore. New! Visit our Tudor Times store!

August 14, 2006

Gosh! Has it really been two weeks since I tried to update? Today, two new recipes posted to the correct page, one for Doucets, another for Noumbles. We link up the long lost tune from the songbook of Henry VIII himself! Also, the review of "Lágrimas de sangre" the most recent CD from Owain Phyfe and Friends is now posted on the correct page.

Sincere thanks to those who have ordered from the Bookstore

July 31, 2006

Wow! Where does the time go? Has it really been nearly a year since I've done anything? Couple of new articles, Advisor to King Warns Lay Landowners in Danger  and New Spelling Standards Set Forth. I also have some new recipes, and another long lost tune from the songbook of Henry VIII himself! These will be added later this week. Also coming soon--a review of "Lágrimas de sangre" the most recent CD from Owain Phyfe and Friends.

Sincere thanks to those who have ordered from the Bookstore

Don't forget, you can now buy articles excerpted from Gale Encyclopedia of Nursing and Allied Health written by your Webmistress!!! Click here to see!

What else? Quite a few new songs due to current events--well, they were current events at one time. Plus, an exclusive to the Tudor Times a new song by Henry VIII himself !!

July 15, 2005

Happy summer! New recipe. That's it for today. Remember, paying work comes first.

Sincere thanks to those who have ordered from the Bookstore--your purchases help to keep us online.

June 4, 2005

In a fit of disgusted pique, I eliminate the original discourse page. Sorry it had to be that way. Today, we finally put in a link in the "I'll have a Queen" speech. Better late than never.

Don't forget! Sign this petition, if it isn't too late. I simply cannot imagine a Renaissance Festival with the exceedingly fine voice of Owain Phyfe missing from the playbill.

Thanks again to those who have ordered from the Bookstore--aside from me, that is--your purchases help to keep us online.

May 31, 2005

Having many technical difficulties. We do have a new story -- well, Ok, it was new in April, when I meant to do the update. We also have some new recipes, who knows whether they will post correctly?

Sign this petition, if it isn't too late. I simply cannot imagine a Renaissance Festival with the exceedingly fine voice of Owain Phyfe missing from the playbill.

March 22, 2005

My, my, where does the time go?

At long last, we post our review of "Martha's Dragon" by Cantiga.

In honor of the wedding of Prince Charles to Camilla Parker Bowles, we post a new story--A Tale of Two Mary's Acrimony to Nan's Planned Matrimony. Who says history doesn't repeat itself?

That's it for now. I do have some new recipes and vertues, but that's for next time.

Hey! The Bookstore is working again! Thanks again to those who have ordered from the Bookstore--aside from me, that is--your purchases help to keep us online.

September 16, 2004

Well, looks like our ISP can't be bothered to fix the Bookstore. Meantime, please visit our old books page, until we can transfer this site elsewhere.

Welcome to another new "Armoury, Jewelery & Fashion" link, medieval-chain-mail-armor.com

New story that we couldn't post until now to commemorate the anniversary of the fabulous Tudor Times. Yet another song parody finally posted.

August 14, 2004

Wow! Where has the summer gone? New story inspired by the Heinz-Kerry "Shove It!" comment. We welcome a new link in the "Armoury, Jewelery & Fashion" Section--Medieval Weapon Art.

That's about it for now.

Thanks again to those who have ordered from the Bookstore in the past--seems our ISP has lost the database. Meantime, please use the linked items.

June 26, 2004

Cleaned up some of the dead links. New recipe--only 6 months 'til Christmas, you know, and the way I've been neglecting the fabulous Times, it might be December until I can update again. The long awaited John Kerry song parody is up. I was thinking about rhyming “Lurch” and “Catholic Church”, but I’ve lost interest in the project. We're moving on to Dick Cheney limericks!!

Thanks again to those who have ordered from the Bookstore--aside from me, that is--your purchases help to keep us online.

June 12, 2004

Hope your summer is going well. Couple of new recipes, lifted from other websites. However, we have some new vertues to accompany the recipes, I just haven't linked them up yet.

Was working on a song parody in honor of John Kerry, but I've put it on hold. Paying work comes first, you know.

Thanks again to those who have ordered from the Bookstore--aside from me, that is--your purchases help to keep us online.

May 10, 2004

Wow! Is it summer again already? Where did the time go? And, more importantly, where did all my stories go? I found one from earlier this year, our tribute to the so-called "Wardrobe Malfunction" during the Super Bowl. Who knows where the rest of the stuff has gone. Thanks again to those who have ordered from the Bookstore, your purchases help to keep us online.

September 29, 2003

Hope you had a great summer. We've been especially busy here at the Times since our last update. Sorry to say, we haven't been busy with articles for the fabulous Tudor Times. Well, better luck next time.

Thanks again to those who have ordered from the Bookstore, to both mine own countrymen and my UK cousins. Speaking of books, if you are a history student looking for a good guide to surviving your classes, we highly recommend A Pocket Guide to Writing in History This is one of the best student resources I've run across to date.

July 16, 2003

New letter posted. Thanks to the letter, and to better accommodate our discriminating visitors, we have updated our website warning. New recipe.  Fixed a broken link. That's all folks. Hope your summer is going well.

Thank you to those who have ordered from the Bookstore

June 9, 2003

Whoa! Where does the time go? Changed the front page music, and removed a link. Posted some replies to comments left. That's all I have time for now. Remember, paying writing comes first. This time it's something about some hospital in Detroit that's threatening to close, or something like that, and something else about long term care.

Next time, we'll have something new, really.

Thank you to those who have ordered from the Bookstore

March 25, 2003

Our favorite doctor of physic, William Bulleyn, Bullein, Bullen, whatever, said that "March and April is the best time to help the French Pox." A pox on the French who do not help us in March and April. In that spirit, we post our recipe for "Freedom Toast", with all the vertues thereto. Fixed a few links on the recipe page, also.

Thank you to those who have ordered from the Bookstore

March 1, 2003

The long awaited Frenche Pockes piece has arrived. We also have some News from a Traveller. Except for the spelling, how very little things change in 500 or so years.  Also posted some of the vertues for butter. A new helpful hint added. Several features to celebrate the wedding of Henry VIII and Katherine Howard. A new recipe as well.

Thanks again to those who have ordered from the Bookstore, to both mine own countrymen and my UK cousins.

February 19, 2003

Doh! Forgot the Frenche Pockes stuffe. Drat. Next time, I'll have the vertues of butter, also, really. Well, I guess it's true--you get what you pay for. The Tudor Times is worth every penny of your subscription money, trust me.

Please visit (Better yet, please order from) our Bookstore

February 12, 2003

New link in the "300 Bawd" section. A hearty "Welcome" to the Time Traveler's guide to Tudor England--Sex and Sleaze.  Speaking of baud, I arrive at the fabulous TT desk only to discover a 'new' keyboard waiting for me. FFB (future Fat Boy) says it's the latest thing. What is a 480 IBM, anyway? Drat, I forgot the info on the Frenche Pockes. Sorry.

Thanks again to those who have ordered from the Bookstore, to both mine own countrymen and my UK cousins.

January 20, 2003

Time for a few more changes to welcome the Valentine's Day Season. Books make a great gift for that special someone, you know. Surprised that I didn't have this vertue already. In reading apples vertues, check out the remedy for "the small pockes." The Times personal physician, Dr. William Bullein, also gave us some great advice on "the Frenche Pockes", another good Valentines Day feature, but I don't have it with me just now. Next time for sure.

Thanks again to those who have ordered from the Bookstore.

January 16, 2003

Happy New Year!! Well, with everyone else out of the office, we find some time for a few quick postings. First up, we feature the newest exhibit on it's way to Detroit. The art works commissioned by those marvelous Medici are a must see if you are at all interested in Renaissance fine arts. (The show has since closed, but visit the Detroit Institute of Arts website anyway)

Inspired by current events, we post a story about the fabled letters from Henry VIII to Anne Boleyn. Also, "Strong Armada Tactics" is new as well, ripped (off) from the headlines of modern times.

Thanks to those who have ordered from the Bookstore. Have a safe and successful 2K3.

December 15, 2002

Yes, I know it's not twelfth night, but I simply couldn't resist this "hair raising" tale.

Best wishes to you and yours during this joyous holiday season. See you in 2003, if the fates allow. We'll hang a star upon a shining...Oh, wait, that's been done.

Don't forget to visit and order from our Bookstore in association with Amazon.com.

November 26, 2002

Just before the holiday rush, we find time for a few new stories. "Top X stories of 1485" has surfaced, so we put it in. Don't forget, this is in Roman numerals. Let's see, what else? "Somewhere in Britain" and "We do need those stinkin' badges" are also new stories. Changed the midi on the front page to a holiday theme.

Don't forget to visit and order from our Bookstore in association with Amazon.com. Your purchases help keep the Tudor Times on-line. My sincere thanks and best wishes to those who visit and order from the Bookstore. Have a very happy holiday season. See you after Twelfth Night.

October 4, 2002

Not wanting to lose out on lucrative contracts from the Palace, we publish our own affidavit regarding that "peculiar institution." We also find and link up our "Shakespeare" story page.

Don't forget to visit and order from our Bookstore in association with Amazon.com. Your purchases help keep the Tudor Times on-line.

October 3, 2002

A revised version of the review for "Tales from the Vineyard." It's much easier for me to spell "gubernatorial" and pronounce "Posthumus" than write reviews for these incredible musicians.

Don't forget to visit and order from our Bookstore in association with Amazon.com. Your purchases help keep the Tudor Times on-line.

October 2, 2002

Posted the review of "Tales from the Vineyard." It's not my best work, but always remember, paying work comes first.

Don't forget to visit and order from our Bookstore in association with Amazon.com. Your purchases help keep the Tudor Times on-line.

October 1, 2002

Fixed some broken links. Now you can find the Internet lesson for "The Ambassadors" at their latest address, among other things. Working on the review of "Tales from the Vineyard" Always remember, paying work comes first. This time, it's something about some gubernatorial race in Michigan, or something like that, something about their platforms on health care...yeah, that's it.  Anyway, I feel good about writing these stories, and that's what's important.

Thanks again to those who visit and order from our Bookstore in association with Amazon.com. Your purchases help keep the Tudor Times on-line.

September 17, 2002

Watch for the review of "Tales from the Vineyard"-the latest work from Owain Phyfe and the New World Renaissance Band. We've just heard (I will refrain from saying "through the grapevine") that this newest CD has hit the playlist as of September 15 at Mists of Avalon. I'm just bubbling with excitement about this new release. I'm sure it will be vintage Phyfe. Not to whine, but it has seemed a very long time since we've seen a new appellation from the Nightwatch label. This is grape, er, great. Stop me before I write again.....

Too late--to celebrate the beginning of another great school year, we post another story.

September 3, 2002

In honor of all the scandal, we finally post our own investigative story. Also, a tribute to Nostradamus. That's about it for now. Here's to another great school year.

Thanks to those who visit and order from our Bookstore in association with Amazon.com. Your purchases help keep the Tudor Times on-line.

August 21, 2002

Wow! Hard to believe that it's been four years now for the fabulous Tudor Times. Please don't be disappointed that there is no special anniversary issue to mark this occasion. Also no anniversary events for the Battle of Bosworth, sorry. There is a new Limerick to mark "the domestic diva's difficulties."  We reprise the 'Tis Sew! page for handy sewing and costuming links.

Thanks to those who visit and order from our Bookstore in association with Amazon.com. Your purchases help keep the Tudor Times on-line.

August 9, 2002

New story. That is all.

July 25, 2002

Now that we're back from our well deserved vacation, we have time for a few changes. We here at the Times have always found the designations "early, middle and late" Tudor to be arbitrary, capricious and well, royalist. Note our new and improved time line, as well as a few new stories.

In honor of all the hot news flashes concerning HRT (hormone replacement therapy) we post a new helpful hint. I had quite forgotten that "Premarin", one of the most popular drugs used for ERT (estrogen replacement therapy), stands for "PREgnant MARe's uRINe." I am not making this up.

Thanks to those who visit and order from the Bookstore

June 18, 2002

Summer means salads, so, here are a couple of new recipes and the vertues thereto. Still working on the Tudor threads. Would like to have a few stories posted on each before I link them up.

Have a great summer. Thanks to those who visit and order from the Bookstore

June 11, 2002

Wow! Where has the time gone? What an exciting quarter here at the times! First, the old ISP shuts down with no warning (and no refunds) What an adventure try to move the fabulous Times to another server. Well, that's all in the past, now.

All I've really done today is put up some new advertisers, and tweak the front page a bit. We must honor the "dot com" in our domain name, you know.  My latest plan is to re-do the front page into early, middle and late Tudor threads. I have come to the unhappy realization that I may not live long enough to cover the news for the years 1485-1603 going a year at a time. These pages are under construction.

Have a great summer. Thanks to those who visit and order from the Bookstore

February 7, 2002

News from America, I chuckle whenever I read this. How very little things change in 500 or so years. Found a helpful hint. Posting some new Limericks, taken from real books. No time to write originals now. (And, some say "no talent," however, we choose to ignore those doltish few) Besides, we are saving our energies for NurseWeek stories. They pay way more than the Times. So, for that matter, does nearly everyone. Coming Soon: Watch for new recipes, and the sort of helpful medical advice you have come to expect from the Times.

Check out our newest advertiser.

Thanks to those who visit and order from the Bookstore

January 24, 2002

Nearly everyone from NCS is at the INTIX conference in Atlanta.  I wasn't invited. Something about answering the phones, or something, I dunno.

Thanks again to all who visit and order from the Bookstore

January 2, 2002

Happy New Year!! I've found some old stories that didn't quite make it in for '01, so we'll put one in now. FFB (Formerly Fat Boy) has left the building. Drat! this means that, although I'm free to abandon real work, I can't find out how to put in new midis. This new ISP doesn't seem to allow that. Too bad, since I have "discovered" a new song done by Henry VIII before he was King. Oh, well.   Back to putting out press releases and sending out customer letters. Some new Internet thing, or something, it's really not that interesting to me. (giggle)

Make your New Year's resolution to read more books. Visit our  Bookstore for ideas. Have a safe and successful 2002.

December 4, 2001

We at the Times have decided to go a-Wassailing. See you after Twelfth Night. God Bless you and send you a happy new year. I have decided to kill off Hank7 shortly after the new year. Another Tudor Tribulation. (we've already used "Tudor Tragedy") Look for our feature "Where were you when you heard the King was dead?" Yes, alert readers will recognize this as yet another Elvis rip-off by the slothful staff here at the Times. Oh, well.

Holiday shopping couldn't be easier, just order something online from the Tudor Times. My sincere thanks to those who visit The Tudor Times, and my undying gratitude to those who order from the Bookstore

November 1, 2001

Many new vertues today. Not linked up to the recipes, yet, that's for another time.

October 30, 2001

Due to the rapidly breaking health related events, The Times cautions readers against speculation, rumour and panic. This is called "the news", and is best left to talented professionals, such as ourselves. In the spirit of this news, we post a new lead story

My sincere thanks to those who visit The Tudor Times, and my undying gratitude to those who order from the Bookstore

October 23, 2001

New reviews for "Otter's Pool" and "Post Modern Pooh."

My sincere thanks to those who visit and order from the Bookstore

October 18, 2001

Finally, the Front Page extension whatever works. Nothing much new--Welcome to DWW conference attendees, check out the bargains in books for writers

August 30, 2001

Gosh, hard to believe, but it's been more than 3 years since we started to publish the Tudor Times. Looking for a big 3 year celebration issue? Don't bother. I'm rather busy with paying work just now. Sorry. Maybe in a few weeks. Thanks for stopping in, though.

Look for a new book review soon. It has nothing to do with the Tudor era, but, hey, I'm getting a free book out of it. It's a humor/satire book they tell me.

My sincere thanks to those who visit and order from the Bookstore

July 24, 2001

Happy 300th, Detroit!!! New bio on our homework sample page. Golf story going in today. It isn't my best work, sorry. Honestly, now, what do you expect for free? I'm saving the really good words for the Michigan Beer Guide, The Royal Oak Daily Tribune, The Gale Encyclopedia of Nursing and Allied Health, and Health Care Weekly Review, subscribe to one, or all of them. Don't worry, the Tudor Times will soon have a reporter back on the Royal beat, however.

My thanks to those who have visited and ordered from the Bookstore, and both of you surely know who you are.

July 6, 2001

Time for a few quick updates. How about a link to Medieval Weapon Art for starters. These nice people have approached the TT  with an offer of a reciprocal link.  We are also working on a golfing story. Here is another Michigan Festival near and dear to me, The Michigan Brewers Guild Summer Beer Festival. Food, Michigan beer, and history, what more could you want?  July 28th.See you there.

May 30, 2001

Not one, but six new recipes and some new vertues. There are a lot of outdated links, I'm afraid. We'll try to fix those in the coming days. Have a jolly June.

May 21, 2001

Yep, just a laugh a minute here at the Tudor Times. What with the change in ISP from my much beloved baby brother, who, after a rigorous weight loss regimen, can almost be called "Buff Boy" instead of "Blubber Boy" and various writing stints, we've barely had time for any work on this site. Now that I have some time, I've left my new stuff at home. Drat.

Well, let's see--how about a link to www.highlandgames.com -- This is the oldest continuously running festival of it's type in North America. Of course, it's right here in Michigan. Great food and fun, haggis tossing, very impressive piper bands, genealogy, men in kilts, and so much more, it's a marvelous summer tradition. Sponsored by the St. Andrew's Society of Detroit, the games benefit many worthwhile causes.  First weekend in August. See you there.

A long overdue addition to the 300 Bawd club. Everything you needed to know about Oliver Cromwell, but didn't want to research yourself.

I'll try to remember to bring my material next time. I think there are new recipes and new vertues in that pile. My thanks to those who have ordered from the Bookstore. Your purchases help keep the Tudor Times on-line.

April 25, 2001

We are mourning several things this month...the ISP that fat boy was using went belly up, and only provided two days notice to customers. How very inconvenient for us. Fits in quite nicely with our Tudor Tragedy lead story.   But, we are back on line (sort of) I apologize for any lost email, it's fixed now. Can't say as much for the Privy page, we'll just have to see how it goes. Yeah, it's real private.

So, thank you for your interest in this website. Visit the Bookstore, and our advertisers. Have a merry month of May.  My thanks to those who have ordered from the Bookstore. Your purchases help keep the Tudor Times on-line.

March 14, 2001

With Fat Boy safely out of the office on a customer service call, I have time to post some changes. I am supposed to be editing a manual or something like that. It's real boring reading. Royal RoundUp is new. Have some new Vertues.  I have another new story on a  new page. It's ahead of the time line, but I just couldn't resist, after all the hubbub surrounding that nice young man from Michigan, otherwise known as Eminem.  Yes, I am a very sick puppy.

My thanks again to those who have ordered from the Bookstore. Your purchases help keep the Tudor Times on-line.

February 2001

I made changes, but forgot to list them here. Oops. Look, just have a peek round the bottoms of the pages to see when they were last updated, how's that? Deal with it as best you can.

January 23, 2001

Happy New Year. A new year is a time to reassess goals and plans. This does not bode well for the future of the Tudor Times

To all those who are boycotting Amazon.com, it's working. I expect to cease publication when the domain name is due for renewal, if not before. We have to honor the "dot com" in our domain name, you know.

The Times found itself in such dire financial straits, we took a real job for a month. Whew--glad that's over with. Since I had to take a real job to sustain the site, in addition to writing articles (for pay), there really isn't a whole lot new here.  Ok, I'll stop whining now.

Some new vertues, but we must caution you against using the sage and chestnutes if you were counting on using US taxpayer funds to bail yourself out. A recipe to use them both is posted. We'll leave it up to a future edition to post the vertues of beer and wine.

My thanks again to those who have ordered from the Bookstore. Your purchases help keep the Tudor Times on-line. Visit the Michigan Beer Guide, the Daily Tribune of Royal Oak, and look for Health Care Weekly Review on your nearest hospital newsstand. Subscribe to all of them, and keep the Tudor Times on line.

November 19, 2000

Another letter posted. November 14 marked the wedding of Arthur and Catherine of Aragon, exclusive photo is still off being engraved. Update to the jobs page, another exclusive from the Tudor Times. Amazon.com has been making some interesting changes of late, and, since the fabulous Tudor Times is heavily dependant on the income from Amazon.com, I truly don't know how much longer I can continue to do this. (Shucks, it's still the first Tudor monarch) But, on the bright side, I will again write (for pay) for the Daily Tribune of Royal Oak, MI, and, here's a dream job--(according to the prime mate, anyway) I have recently sold (read "for pay") not one, but two stories to the Michigan Beer Guide. I am still a regular contributor (for pay) to Health Care Weekly Review, which does not have a website, or else I would put in the link. Clamor for copies at hospital newsstands in Michigan. Like Fat Boy said, "This 'stuffe' isn't free, you know." Please visit our sponsors, and do order something for the holidays.

November 4, 2000

As a Boleyn, I'm am keenly aware that my place is not with those timid souls "who know neither victory nor defeat", or something like that. Yep, I'm waiting for Tuesday and the election results to find I've finished third in a three way race. Oh, well. Time for some quick updates today--more stuffe to follow in a couple of days, probably Nov 8, when I'm sure I'll be in need the solace of the Tudor Times. Today, we post some of last month's letters for your reading pleasure. Whatever speech writer coined the phrase "education recession" wasn't joking.

My sincere thanks again to those who visit and order from the Bookstore. Your purchases help keep the Tudor Times on-line and free of charge. Books make great holiday gifts, you know.

October 3, 2000

Unfortunately, summer is over. Wish I'd found the handy hint "How to Get Rid of Mosquitoes" sooner. Well, there's always next year. Likewise, I wish I'd known about this recipe for summer drinks. Since I found The Medieval Home Companion, we are able to offer the handy hint for mosquitoes, and an update to "How to Buy a Horse". Whoa, I can't believe how this Medieval Companion guy steals stuff from the Times. It's really uncanny. Also Check out "What to feed unexpected guests". Several new Vertues. We have new letters to the editor, but one has really saddened me, so, maybe next month on that posting. As the Debates begin, and we choose which candidate we think will take us to hell at a slower pace, I ponder again the words of surely one of the best doctors known to man in any age, Wm. Bullein. "Surfeite, age and sickenes are enemies all to health, Medicenes to mende the bodie, excelleth worldly wealth: Phisicke shall florish, and in daunger will give cure, Till death unknit the lively knot, no lenger we indure. --William Bullein, 1562".

My sincere thanks again to those who visit and order from the Bookstore.

September 4, 2000

Happy Labor Day. Time for a quick update. New letters to the editor. Note that the Tudor Times has been dubbed "the arbiter of taste in the latest trends of the 16h century". Coming soon: New Handy Hints and More Vertuous Veggies.

In the works for October, "Tower Terror". We'll be marrying off Arthur Tudor in November. An exclusive wedding photo is on tap.

My sincere thanks again to those who visit and order from the Bookstore.

August 4, 2000

Happy 100th birthday to the Queen Mum.

The "Who's The Father" story is up now, and the handy travel chart. Changes were made to the Taverns page recently.

My sincere thanks again to those who visit and order from the Bookstore.

July 27, 2000

Gosh, has it really been a year since we re-upped the domain name? Guess so. Time really flies when you are having a good one. Today, I'm importing new pics and midis for upcoming stories. "Who's the Father?" What the unmarried mother can expect at delivery. "Vertue in Vegetables", a new feature to complement the recipe & helpful hint section. I've finally admitted that I really haven't the time to do a decent sewing info page. Also in the works, a story using artwork for sale from art.com, working on new jobs and a handy clip and save travel chart. So, visit again over the next week, for all the fun and frolic you've come to expect from the Tudor Times.

My sincere thanks again to those who visit and order from the Bookstore. Your purchases keep the Tudor Times on-line.

June 30, 2000

Dragged back, kicking and screaming from our summer recess, we post some changes. Check the new banner ads. I really hope this new gig doesn't interfere with my blossoming writing career. Some letters posted. New limerick. Still working on the Guidelines for Bloodletting. We suddenly remember that the Royal College of Surgeons wasn't created until Harry, Jr's tenure. So, that's our excuse, and we're stickin' to it.

Thanks again to those who visit and order from the Bookstore.

May 2000

Time for some quick updates. "Play the Right Instrument for your Humoral Type", as promosed. New Jobs, and a "For Sale" posting. Fix a few typos. That's about it.

May 30-Couple of new recipes. That's about it.

Again, my most sincere thanks to all those who have visited and ordered from the Bookstore

April 2000

Well, I've got to to something while I wait for midnight on April 17 to mail in the tax payment, so I turn to the Tudor Times for solace. New Front page Story--it's breaking news you can use right away. New title for the Y1.5K page, and a new story line.  New Limerick and a new recipe. The "New Guidelines for Bloodletting" is on hold, breaking news comes first. Also in the works -- "Are you playing the right instrument for your blood type?" At the next update, we should have some job openings, as well as classified ads.

I love that toddlin’ town! The Tudor Times has made the list of The Chicago Public Library Cybrarians' Favorite Food and Fun Spots. "News got you down? Visit one of these sites to get a fresh perspective on current events or shift your focus to a different era". The Library Cybrarian's call the TT "A tongue in cheek look at what was happening in the 16th century."

My most sincere thanks to all those who have visited and ordered from the Bookstore

March 2000

March 23- Not one, but four new recipes. In recognition of one of the comments in the discourse section, I begin to work on "Looking Toothsome after Twenty", an article to update to our "Tis Sew" page.  Of course, we'll still be following the royal bridal search, and planned wedding.

New front page story. New banner ads scattered about. Couple new limericks. Kind of busy just now with paid assignments, can you tell? The stories and limericks are starting to become much less amusing, even to me.  The letters are always great, a few more posted. Yet to come -- some more recipes, I just have to find what I've done with them.  Well, maybe next week. Also in the works, "New Government Guidelines for Bloodletting", part of our very popular and on-going "health news you can really use" series.

My most sincere thanks to all those who have visited and ordered from the Bookstore.

February 2000

Well, we’ve not only survived the Y2K rollover, but another Super Bowl Sunday. I went off the wagon in a major way when I realized I had not sent in my guaranteed Publisher’s Clearinghouse winning prize number. Things quickly disintegrated at Tudor Times central after that. The prime mate was gleefully calling out his own play-by-play to me as I worked on background for a (paying) editor. "Look, dear, it’s the official coin toss". "There’s still no score". "Field Goal!!!!".

I, of course, responded to all these nuggets of information with my usual interested and pleasant rejoinder. However, when I wanted to discuss my progress on the upcoming story, the prime mate growled, "What was that I just heard about not giving a rat’s @ss?"

Guilty of TDF (Talking During Football, not responding to a prime mate play-by-play), I slunk from the room, and concentrated on this issue of the Tudor Times.

At last! "Best Excuses to explain your absence should the plague victim survive". More jobs. Gosh, has it really been 3 months since the last "Jobs" update? We post 10 instead of 5 openings to try to make up for this.

A new link in the "Other Realms" section. Rhavyn's Keep Chainmaille Design For all of your Armour, Jewelry and Fashion needs. You know, I've long wondered what on earth one would do with a chain mail bikini bathing suit. Seems like the darn thing would rust if you tried to swim in it, to say nothing of sinking to the bottom of the pool, and one could sustain a ghastly burn if it were used for sunning oneself. Hm.

I cannot tell you how appreciative I am of the visitors to the Bookstore. Naturally, I am even more indebted to those who purchase from same. Amazon.com informs me that there have been over 1000 Bookstore visitors since Jan 1. Thank you all.

January 2000

Jan 23-The North American International Auto Show in Detroit closes to the public today. In honor of the Show, we post an article on buying new transportation. New (giggle) recipe (giggle, chuckle) posted. The prime mate feels really guilty, so he has found two sites for the 300 Bawd Club.

Welcome to visitors from the World Renaissance Conference.

Jan 8-I've really fixed the Privy Page now, I even tested it. If you sent something between mid-November and now, it's lost, sorry. I got another paid writing gig, so the other changes will be late, but I'll get to them all. Remember, paid stuff comes first. Oh, and my work here at NCS, of course.

Jan 4-Having an unbelievably smooth Y2K rollover here at NCS. Fat Boy, that is, my much beloved baby brother, began shouting and pacing wildly yesterday afternoon. "Damn my programming competence! Curse my sense of ethics! I could have made a lot more money from this Y2K thing!!"  He's calmed down today, so I post a couple of reviews. The first is for Owain Phyfe, "Poets, Bards and Singers of Song", and the second is "Silence is Deadly" from The Waits of Southwark. Some new limericks, also.

Jan 3-Happy New Year! Glad to see that your computer is working. We're working hard here at the Tudor Times, as well. In the next couple of days, we'll be posting our Y1.5K recommendations, an announcement from the Palace, some more really bad limericks and several new music reviews. Meanwhile, we've changed the front page background tune. I've lost track of what year this is in the Tudor Times, but 1492 sounds good.

My most sincere thanks to all those who have visited during 1999 and ordered from the Bookstore.

December 1999

Happy Holidays from the Tudor Times, the Nov 30 update is the last until after Jan 6, 2000, so that we may enjoy the holidays with our beloved family and friends. After Jan 6, look for many new jobs posted, a Y1.5K update, hopefully, something serious on the 'Tis Sew page, and all the fun and frolic you've come to expect from the Tudor Times.

Nov 30-With the new server in place, I now have a special computer of my very own in the basement of NCS from which to view the Tudor Times website. My new computer is a TRS 80, which fat boy says stands for "Tudor Real-time Site". My website looks a lot like a screen saver now, none of the links seem to work. Everything is in black and white, too.

Technical problems aside, we post new recipes for the holidays, with one from Nostradamus himself, in keeping with our theme from the lead story--the long awaited "Apocalypse at the Present Time". New helpful hint just in time for holiday entertaining. New links in the "Other Realms" section. I think I've fixed the privy page, so now I can receive all those requests for homework help again. Couple of new limericks. Changed the background theme of the limericks page to better reflect the quality of the limericks.

A sincere thanks to all those who have visited and ordered from the Bookstore.  Best Wishes for the holidays from our house to yours. See you after Twelfth Night.

November 1999

New recipe listed. New limericks.New letters to the editor. That's about it, I'm pretty busy with real work just now, sorry. After I send my stories off to the (paying) editors, I'll do more with this. Remember, paid articles take precedence. Oh, and of course my work here at NCS.

Nov. 11-Two articles sold & sent off this week, and I now turn my attentions to the fabulous Tudor Times. A new 300 Bawd member is welcomed. What a wonderful resource! Update to the Y1.5K page.

Nov 16-Fat boy is doing something to the servers-I dunno what. "Mirror sites.... faster connect times....hosting fees..." It's all gibberish to me.

A sincere thanks to all those who have visited and ordered from the Bookstore.

October 1999

To me, October means witches, skeletons, pumpkins and a look ahead to cold weather. This issue reflects that. New Jobs posted to prepare for winter. Several New Recipes. The soup recipes reflect the esprit of the Renaissance, or at least some "spirits", and may not be wholly correct. Remember: It’s my website. A few new limericks. Bewitching books from Amazon.com on the gift page. New reviews posted in the music section.

The useful costume information is in the works, I attended a seminar Oct 1st, led by none other than the Wardrobe Mistress of the Michigan Renaissance Festival. The Webmistress really is a member of the Costume Society of America. Look for a discussion of fashion and politics around October 30, in connection with an ongoing DIA exhibit displayed at Meadowbrook Hall. This promises to be a fairly serious piece, and we know that those serious pieces take a back seat to paid published work.

October 31-Happy Halloween! New recipe listed in time for November 1st. The 'Tis Sew! webpage takes a more serious (and more useful) turn.

A sincere thanks to all those who have visited and ordered from the Bookstore.

September 1999

Whoa! Just go on a little vacation, and look what happens! We get our 10,000 th visitor, and the hit counter rolls back to zero! I suspect Fat Boy had a hand in this. Of course, now the hit counter reads, "You are visitor 1.0231". Real funny. What else is new? New Front Page story. Some letters to the Editor. New links, notably the Owain Phyfe Appreciative Listener Society--a site devoted to the Bard of Berkley, Michigan. A new recipe in honor of the birth of Arthur Tudor. New job posted. New 300 Bawd site.

Fat Boy's newest cruelty: He made me a sign stating, "Will work for Bandwidth", and handed it to me in lieu of a pay check.

In October/November watch for (possibly useful) costume info.   Also in the works--"Apocalypse at the Present Time" a new lead story as we get ready to greet the new year. Plenty of recipes being tested in the Tudor Times Kitchen.

A sincere thanks to all those who have visited and ordered from the Bookstore. To paraphrase Christopher Morley, "When you buy a book, you don't just buy 12 ounces of paper, ink and glue--you buy a whole new life".

August 1999

Hard to believe, but it's been just about a year since I said to myself, "Well, *#%& !, no one is going to buy this domain name, I had better do something with it now to try to recover my expenses".

And, what a year it's been (and, what expenses there have been) Since the Tudor Times launched on August 22, uh, August 21, we've had great fun, got a few reviews from the media, as well as listings on some academic sites, and we learned a little along the way. (We mostly learned it's better not to work with your family, if anyone else at all will hire you) I don't know how much longer this site will be here, but enjoy it while you still can.

The year is in review below, and here are this month's changes:

New look to the front page to try to cram in all the stuff. In keeping with our designation as 'The web's least up to date newspaper", we post our JFK Jr limerick. New recipe and new helpful hint. Oh, and a sponsor for our "Privy Council" page! Many new links in the "Other Realms" section, particularly, a link to a "Free Form Role Playing Channel" website. Not really my style, but the site is very well done. New 300 Bawd listing. We post our Y1.5K readiness statement. New Jobs posted in anticipation of the birth of a royal heir in September.

A sincere thanks to all those who have visited and ordered from the Bookstore. Here's to another year of the Tudor Times!

July 1999

Fat Boy, my much beloved brother and current ISP, continues to make those strange, guttural noises that sound suspiciously like, "When are you going to pay me my hosting fees?" or something like that. I ignored him, until he became really cruel:

"Look, Maggers, you’re a nurse, let me explain it in medical terms. I am your host. Your silly Tudor Times is existing at my expense. Therefore, it’s a parasite, not a website. -- Hey, that’s pretty good." Pleased once again with his facile wit, Fat Boy lumbered off, chuckling to himself. I think about telling on him.

But, tattle to whom? This is about money, so the family will undoubtedly back blubber boy. The prime mate has already voiced his thoughts on the amount of time consumed by this website, so he would be neutral at best. Hm. I concentrate on the July-August issue instead.

The Tudor Times has been selected as an Amazon.co.uk featured associate!!   So, we have to keep those Amazon boxes front & center.

New (giggle) recipe (giggle) listed. We get interactive with our limericks, and link to the stories providing the inspiration.

July 16th-Fat Boy ducks out early again on a glorious, sunny day. I don't mind. New recipes, and a new helpful hint entered. Re-do the recipe page to put newer things at the top. I'm supposed to be making CDs to send to customers and prospects. Hey, if I do that, then I'll just have to get them ready to ship. I add more sponsors to this website instead, and post new stuff on the Limericks page.  Look for new jobs in the August issue, when we celebrate one year of the Tudor Times. Music and restaurant reviews on hold--I actually am getting paid writing assignments and that comes first. Oh, and of course, my work here at NCS.

A sincere thanks to those who have visited and ordered from the Bookstore.

June 1999

Fat boy has left the building, so here's a quick update on the changes this month:

New letters to the editor. The quarterly Y1.5K update is our lead story. New Jobs. Several new recipes, and a new helpful hint.We welcome another 300 Bawd Club addition, one that will probably withdraw their permission for inclusion if they ever read their intro. Oh, well.  We have discovered some more very fine websites that have linked to us and say nice things about the Tudor Times. We don’t know how we have ended up in such good company— but we are grateful.

Recently added a "UK Books Section" to the Bookstore, with just a few UK books to start. Loved the UK title: "Bring Me the Head of Anne Boleyn" .

In progress—Summer style series—Music reviews—and all the fun and frolic you’ve come to expect from the Tudor Times.

My sincere thanks to all those who visit our sponsors and order from our Amazon Bookstore.

June 27--Summer style series is now the lead story for June/July, a new limerick. More letters to the Editor, a few from Fat Boy himself. (At least we're still speaking via e-mail) I put up sponsors on most of the website pages. Do try to visit them now and then, won't you? New items on the Gifts page. Watch for the Tudor Times advertisement in the Michigan Shakespeare Festival program coming in July.

May 1999

Tick-It! sales continue at a brisk pace. New Concepts Software (NCS) launches not just one or two, but three new point of sale software products simultaneously. As NCS publicity writer, I ignore these developments and focus my energy on the May-June edition of the Tudor Times.

What a shock to discover that you can’t eternally re-write on floppy disks. Now I have to run something called a "Norman Disc Doctor Scan" or something like that to try to retrieve the Tudor Times data in the files that were lost. No one wants to help me, either. What a bunch of unfeeling clods I work with. Not only that, the phone keeps ringing and interrupting my work on this website.

This month’s changes:

Check out the changes to the Rack. We welcome new advertisers this month. Couple of new limericks. The Norton Disk Doctor couldn't recover the rest, unfortunately. Likewise unable to recover the jobs. Oh, well. A New recipe just in time for summer strawberry season. New front page story. I think I've made all of my webrings work all of the time, finally. No one here wanted to help me with that, as well.

Oh, and a new publicist person has joined the happy NCS family. How good can this guy be? I don’t even know his name. Hey! Hey! This is MY desk, pal-----

Enjoy the Tudor Times while you still can. My sincere thanks to those who visit and order from our Bookstore. Coming in June--the Y1.5K quarterly update.

April 1999

New front page story, a new 300 Bawd link. New Recipe, New Jobs, couple of new Limericks. The Times is included in a Medieval Source Book on the web, with the introduction, "Humor waiting for you around every corner! Extraordinary site."

Enjoy the Tudor Times while you can. Fat Boy, that is, my beloved baby brother, and current ISP, has begun to make strange, almost incomprehensible, sounds. Things like, "Extra charges for Data Bases...OCDB connect...standard hosting fees...uploads..." and a personal favorite, "Real world ISP rates". Not until I fixed him with that level gaze that most people mistake for polite interest, but family members recognize as meaning "Oh, do shut up", did he begin to get violent. Grabbing me by the shoulders and shaking me, he shouted, "This 'stuffe' isn't free, you know". I ignore him.

March 1999

That's right, we'll consider almost any means of revenue. Our "Jobs" pages have a sponsor now, and we are hard at work trying to convince certain marketing companies (who shall remain nameless) to back our Y1.5K page.  A few new limericks, more are on hold until the Charlotte NC Observer finishes the limerick contest. Watch for our new investigative expose cover story in April. My sincere thanks to those who visit and order from our Bookstore.

February 1999

Don't ask about January.Don't ask where the "Top 10 stories for 1485" went, either. Man of the year for 1485 would, of course, have to be Hank 7. In a desperate attempt to boost sales, I start to rethink the Bookstore categories. (Think about it--I could change the Food section to read "Consuming Passions", Create a "Sex, Smut and Elizabethan Erotica" section. Call the costume section, "Dress and Undress!" ) I make a Tapestries section instead.  New Jobs, letters, recipes, more 300 bawd sites. Front page story and song are new.

December 1998

We add a gift suggestion page for the holiday season. Letters to the Editor section on the Stories page is new. New question in the FAQ (About Us). Not one or two, but three new sites join the 300 bawd club this month. New job postings, new recipes and a Y1.5K update. After January 6, check for "How to Plague Proof You and Your Family", and a few more "politically correct" job postings, and all the fun and frolic you've come to expect from the Tudor Times.

November 1998

Really enjoying the comments received via email, the privy council line, and the comments section. Sorry not to answer all mail all the time.  Love the differences between American visitors and my "cousins" from the UK. "Amazon.uk.com" programme associate boxes added in their honour.  New jobs posted for seasonal holiday help. More books added to the bookstore, all the subjects now have listings. "The Rack" added for magazines. Couple of new Limericks added.

October 1998

Yep, it's just a laugh a minute here at the Times. Viewed the site on a very large diagonal screen with a Netscape browser. Almost have a heart attack when I see how unbelievably bad it looks with Netscape. I ask my fat geek brother for design help...   New lead story. Look for changes to the Book Store in progress.

September 1998

After begging everyone I know to visit, as well as bothering strangers via e-mail, The Times records 100 hits. Sadly, due to a perverted sense of humor, the hit counter appears as "You are visitor 1.1.1". Very funny. Many more new books. Watch for new front page story in October.

August 1998

The Times finally launches. Everything is new. Please check back later.
