Rick Wakeman
Six Wives of Henry VIII
Lets just say
when I first heard this album in 1973 I was old enough to be deeply impressed by the
originality and talent displayed in the compositions. Rick Wakemans short
explanation: "This album is based around my interpretations of the musical
characteristics of the wives of Henry VIII. Although the style may not always be in
keeping with their individual history, it is my personal conception of their characters in
relation to keyboard instruments," forever shaped my idea of what it means to be an
artist. To take your personal impressions of a subject, translate them into your artistic
medium, and then work your butt off bringing the piece to life. (This album was produced
over an eight month period in 1972.) Each track is stunning for the freshness and
brightness of the compositions that two and a half decades have not dimmed. Highly
recommended for those who appreciate artistic impressions and innovation. Not recommended
for those who are looking for "pure" renaissance music-electric guitars,
electric banjos and synthesizers are from the reign of Elizabeth II, not the first. Click

Journey to the Center of the Earth
The classic Jules Verne story
set to music. Powerful synthesizer scores along with the London Symphony Orchestra blend
into a wonderful treat for the ears and the imagination. (Note: only
"renaissance" in the sense that the story is being reborn).Click
