The Tudor Times - A "Renaissance Zone" on the Internet
.Watch out, established newspapers, another Metro area publication has appeared on the scene. "The Tudor Times" is a lighthearted look at 16th century England. Modern day humor is not excluded, however, as the Times has a large collection of Bill Clinton Limericks, as well as a "Y1.5K update". Also unique to the site is the "300 Bawd" club. A play on the computer term "300 baud", this section is devoted to websites that feature humor with a renaissance flavor. Stories include such offerings as a parody of Time Magazines "Is Feminism Dead?" The site features an extensive on-line English Renaissance bookstore in association with Amazon.com. In keeping with the medieval motif, "The Rack" is where visitors may purchase selected items that rotate periodically.
"The Times is really an elaborate advertising tool for the capabilities of New Concepts Software" (NCS), explains Maggie Boleyn. NCS designs websites and produces innovative software programs, and was founded by Ms Boleyns brother, Monty Boleyn. The Tudor Times will also be used as a means of promoting one NCS product, Tick-It! 97, a windows based box office management system. Links within the Tudor Times site guide the visitor to the NCS website and Tick-It! 97 Information.
The site also contains useful links for costume information and Michigan festival links. Local restaurants that sport a renaissance theme, or a renaissance type name are also featured in the "Reviews" section.
When asked how sales are coming along for such an esoteric subject as books dealing with England in the 16th century, Ms Boleyn laughs. "Well," she says. "Tick-It! 97 sales are much, much better!".
